NEw faculty learning community
OVERVIEW
Are you a new faculty member at Mines? Are you interested in support and community as you teach your course(s)?
Join the New Faculty Learning Community (NFLC), a year-long opportunity to discuss teaching and learning with colleagues from across the university. During the NFLC, you will engage in informal discussions around teaching and learning and get support and resources to help you teach at Mines. The learning community, which meets (approximately) monthly, consists of discussions, readings, and reflections.
Our goal for this learning community is to help set you up for success when you teach at Mines by 1) building community, 2) providing support, and 3) promoting evidence-based teaching practices. We encourage new faculty (and those who started at Mines over the past several years) to join us!
OUTCOMES
During the New Faculty Learning Community, you will:
- Reflect on your teaching practices
- Incorporate evidence-based teaching practices into your classes
- Apply feedback to improve your teaching
- Build community with peers to support the culture of teaching and learning at Mines
Intended Audience
This learning community is intended for new faculty (tenure-track, teaching track, and adjunct) who start in Fall 2023 and those who started at Mines during the past several years. Whether you are new to teaching or have a lot of prior experience teaching, we welcome you to join the learning community.
SCHEDULE
The learning community will meet 4-5 times during each semester (fall and spring). In order to build community, we recommend that faculty attend at least 3-4 meetings each semester. In addition, we will have an informal get-together during the fall semester. Most meetings will take place on Fridays from 2-3 pm. If you are unable to meet during this time but are interested in participating, please reach out to Deb Jordan at djordan@mines.edu.
